Pain, soreness, swelling at injection site are usually short acting. You can give benadryl for these. If your pet has a swollen face, trouble breathing or an anaphylactic reaction, go to the nearest ER right away. Click here for a list of emergency vets.

Legally, no. However it is very important to test your dog starting by at least 1 year of age and then yearly regardless if your pet is on prevention. When we test, we are making sure:

• That the prevention products are still working (there are parts of the country where heartworms are resistant to several products) and
• Your pet is safe to start prevention. If your dog tests positive, your primary vet will run a confirmation test and then start treatment.
• Most drug companies will pay for heartworm treatment if you can prove the pet is on monthly prevention and tested yearly as its considered a failure of the product.

Most clinics will require a negative test to sell you prevention. Ours are cheaper. We can send test results to your primary vet.

If you decline a heartworm test and/or prevention, you will be required to sign a waiver at checkout.

 YES! As of August 2026 we have both the 3 year Rabies and DHPP for dogs. Conditions apply. Pet must have proof of previous vaccination and be no more than 60 days over due. Cost for each is $45. Please ask staff if you have questions. Puppies have to get 1 year rabies and their final puppy DHPP is good for one year. That is per the FDA.
